The Z-source solid-state circuit breaker is prominent in DC protection systems because of its faster operation, automatic fault response, and needlessness for an auxiliary power supply.
However, these type of circuit breakers are primarily good at detecting instantaneous faults. They cannot provide safety in situations where the load current slowly goes up until the device is damaged. To handle non-instantaneous faults, additional complex mechanisms are typically employed with the Z-source breaker.
The goal of this research is to implement a simple overload protection mechanism that will work along with the Z-source breaker. Currently, we are using hall sensors to implement this feature.
